How do I add sources to Other Relationships in Family Tree?

Finding and adding sources is a great way to verify the accuracy of historical events. Add sources to Other Relationships by editing them on the person page in Family Tree. You can add sources to the person, to the relationship, or to both. Sources attached to people are easier to find than sources attached to relationships. If you add them to the relationship, we recommend that you also add them to the person so they are easier for other users to see.

Steps (website)

  1. In Family Tree, go to the person page of the individual with the relationship you want to edit.
  2. Click Details.
  3. Scroll down to the Other Relationships section near the bottom of the page.
  4. Find the relationship you want to add sources to.
  5. Click the Edit icon.
  6. A pop-up menu will appear. Scroll to the Source section, and click + Add Source.
  7. Click 1 of the 3 options:
    • Add New Source
    • Add New Memory Source
    • Attach from Source Box
  8. Enter as much information as you know about the source. Make sure to link to or upload the source itself into the system.
  9. Click Save.

Steps (mobile app)

You cannot add sources to an Other Relationship using the Family Tree mobile app. We recommend that you add the source to the person instead. If you want to add sources to the relationship, please use the website.
