The Family Feed is an interactive feed where you can write about family history experiences and post memories similar to a social media account.

The Family Feed can be found here: https://www.familysearch.org/en/home/portal/feed, or by navigating to the Memories menu on the FamilySearch website and selecting Family Feed.

Family Feed Features

The Family Feed has these unique features:

Family Feed Connections
You can share your experiences and memories on the Family Feed specifically to your connections. Connections on the Family Feed are similar to friends on social media. To connect with another FamilySearch user, you must send a request and be accepted by the other user. Or you must accept requests from other users. Connection requests are found and can be managed in the panel seen on the right side of the Family Feed page.

The Family Feed includes your posts, posts made by your connections, and posts from other users about ancestors you have in common. You can comment on and like each other’s posts and comments. You can also tag ancestors or each other in posts. Additionally, options to edit or report abuse (found by clicking the triple dots) for any post seen in the Family Feed.

Posts From Connections

A post from a connection displays the connection’s contact ID, profile photo, and any attached content (such as a photo). If you would like to stop seeing posts from a connection, you can remove the connection. This can be done in the panel found on the right side of the Family Feed page.

Question and Answer

Q: Who will be able to see the items I post in my Family Feed?
A: Only your added connections will see the content you upload to your Family Feed. However, you may select to share a post with your connections or with just yourself.

Q: Why hasn’t my photo shown up in the feed? Or why does it say Processing?
A: All photos uploaded to the Family Feed undergo the same screening process for any image uploaded to FamilySearch. Once your photo has been processed and approved, it will be visible on the Family Feed.

Q: Where do the photos I upload to the Family Feed go?
A: These items will be added to your personal Memories gallery in FamilySearch. However, any comments or likes will not be transferred from the Family Feed to your Memories gallery or from your Memories gallery to the Family Feed.

Q: Can I tag an ancestor in my post?
A: Yes. Tagging an ancestor in the Family Feed is similar to tagging a person in social media. Use the @ symbol and then type the name of your ancestor. Their name should show up in a drop-down list of ancestors.

Q: If I tag an ancestor in a post with a photo, will the photo be added to that ancestor’s Memories gallery?
A: No. The memory will be added to your personal Memories gallery and not to your ancestor’s Memories gallery.

Q: Can I tag one of my connections in my post?
A: Yes. Connections can be tagged by clicking the user profile button seen at the bottom left of the Create Post box.
