To help maintain accuracy, careful and thorough effort should be taken when researching and documenting.

Family history research is ideally centered around the Genealogical Proof Standard (GPS), which consists of:

• Reasonably exhaustive research
• Complete and accurate source citations
• Thorough analysis and correlation of the collected information
• Resolution of any conflicting evidence
• Soundly written conclusion based on the strongest evidence
