The following steps are used to convert cassettes to digital format using the Sony Mini DV Digital Handycam with the Diamond or Clear Click converter (hereafter referred to as converter).
1. Locate the 3 plug-in ports on the camcorder (yellow, white, and red).
2. Match the cord colors to the corresponding colored ports and plug all of the cords into the Sony Mini DV Digital Handycam.
3. Match cord colors to the corresponding colored ports and plug all of the cords into the converter.
Note: The converter inputs should connect to your video source (VHS or camcorder) outputs. For more details, refer to the user manual for the converter.
4. Plug in the converter power cord.
5. Insert the micro USB port or SD card into the converter using the corresponding port.
Note: The SD card is upside-down when inserted into the converter.
6. On the control panel of the converter, press the menu button.
7. Use the down arrow and scroll down to Default Storage Device.
8. Select the correct storage device (SD for SD card or USB for flash drive) using the up and down arrows.
9. Once the correct storage device is highlighted, press the OK button.
10. Before inserting the cassette, verify that it has been locked by sliding and opening the cassette tab to expose the red tab.
Note: If you try to record without the red tab exposed, you cannot record. The cassette must be locked so that the contents are not recorded over.
11. To open the handycam, push the Eject button down. The cassette panel automatically opens when the Eject button is pushed down.
12. Load the cassette into the handycam.
Note: The cassette is inserted with the window side facing out of the cassette compartment.
13. To close the cassette panel, press the Push indicator on the cassette panel until it clicks.
14. If you need to rewind or fast forward the cassette, press the corresponding button on the handycam menu.
Note: Rewinding and fast-forwarding can take some time to complete.
15. Verify the handycam power settings and ensure that the handycam power is set to VTR by verifying the placement of the green button.
Note: If the handycam power setting is something other than VTR, change the power to the VTR option.
16. To open the LCD screen, on the handycam cassette panel, push the Open button. (For more details, refer to the user manual.)
Note: LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) is a flat panel technology commonly used in TV and computer monitors. It is also used for screens in mobile devices, such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
17. On the LCD panel, verify that the display shows the correct images for the tape you are digitizing.
18. When the handycam is on, you can see the controls for the camcorder in the viewer panel.
Note: The viewer panel can be swiveled to different viewing positions if needed.
19. On the handycam viewer panel, press the Play button.
20. On the converter, press the Rec/Stop button.
Note: If you press the Rec/Stop button on the converter before you begin playing the cassette tape on the handycam, a warning notice will appear in the handycam viewer panel.
21. In the top left corner of the converter screen, numbers to the right of the red camera should begin counting up. The camera icon and increasing number indicate that the recording is in progress. (For more details, refer to the user manual for the converter.)
Note: You can see digital images of the recording displayed on the converter screen when the cassette is playing. You can also see the same images on the LCD screen of the handycam.
22. When the recording conversion has been completed, on the converter, press the Rec/Stop button.
23. On the handycam menu, press Stop.
24. To eject the cassette from the handycam, press the eject button up.
25. Remove the cassette from the handycam and close the cassette panel after you have removed the cassette.
26. Turn the handycam off by pressing the Off button.
27. Disconnect all the cords from the handycam and the converter.
28. Remove the SD card or USB flash drive.
29. Return the handycam, converter, and all cords to a volunteer or missionary.
