Quick Start Guide for Epson DS-50000 Flatbed Scanner

The Epson V50000 Flatbed Scanner is primarily used to digitize photographs and documents. The following steps explain how to use the scanner.

1. To turn on the scanner, on the front, right-hand side of the scanner, press the gray power button.

2. Check the scanner glass for smudges or lint. To clean the scanner glass, use an anti-static cloth, brush, or wet wipes. Cleaning supplies may be obtained from a volunteer.

3. To open the software program, on the computer, click the Epson Scan 2 icon.

4. Check the scanner settings. Adjust the settings as needed. Refer to the manual for more information. The recommended settings are as follows:

  • Software Setup

    • Scan Setting: Select Multiple Photos
    • Document Size: Select Maximum Size
    • Image Type: Select Color for both color and black and white photos
    • Resolution: Select 600 dpi
    • Rotation: Select Auto
    • Correct Document Skew: Select Contents Skew
    • Check the box: Add or edit pages after scanning
  • File Save Settings
    • Image Format: JPEG
    • Folder: Flatbed Scans (C:\Users\Patron\Pictures\Flatbed Scans)
    • File Name Prefix and Start Number: (Patron preference)

5. Place the photos on the flatbed at least 1/4 inch - 1/2 inch apart.

6. Click Preview.

7. Rotate the photos if needed.

8. For individual photos rather than a collage, select each photo separately. (See manual for more information.)

9. Click Select All.

Note: If you do not click Select All, the scanner will create a single image rather than individual pictures.

10. Click Scan.

11. Edit the images as needed.

12. Click one of the following:

  • Add: To scan more photos or documents, click Add. Remove the items from the glass and repeat steps 5-11.
  • Edit: To edit scanned images, click Edit.
  • Save: To save scanned images and finish scanning, click Save.

13. When scanning is complete, click Save.

14. Remove all photos or documents from the scanner.

15. Verify images have been saved to the appropriate file on the desktop before closing the software program.

16. Copy the images to a thumb drive or external hard drive by dragging and dropping the images into the thumb drive or external hard drive folder.

17. To close the program, in the top right corner, click X.

18. Confirm you want to close the program.

19. To turn off the scanner, press the power button.
