The expert Record Hints activity allows you to review and attach historical records from record hints generated by artificial intelligence. Attaching record hints can improve the accuracy of the Family Tree and may identify new people who aren't yet in the Tree.
Note: This activity is designed for users with experience working in Family Tree and attaching records.
Steps (website)
- Sign in to FamilySearch.
- Click Get Involved at the top of the page.
- Click Opportunities from the drop-down menu.
- Scroll down to the blue Record Hint Review box and click Get Started.
- Choose a country or location to view records in that area. To narrow your results, you can also select a state or territory and pick a record type. Then click Search.
- A record pops up. Decide if the person in the record matches the tree person shown.
Click Yes, No, or Skip. If you click Yes, the source linker opens, and you continue with step 9.
- If you are sure the indexed information does not align with the possible tree match, click Dismiss Match.
If the indexed information and possible record match are consistent, click Attach to Tree.
Note: Occasionally, you may come across a record that is already attached. If the Attach to Tree button is absent, close the browser tab and choose another hint.
- On the source linker page, compare the indexed information on the left to the tree information on the right.
- View additional information by clicking Details to the right of a person's name.
- To check for misspellings or additional details in the original document, click View Image near the top of the page. Once you’ve made any necessary corrections to the record, refresh the source linker page to view your edits.
- If the data in the left column is consistent with the data in the right column, click Attach. If not, click Not a Match. For more detailed directions on using the source linker, see Using Source Linker to attach sources.
- Close the browser tabs for the record you completed before choosing another record hint. After closing the source linker tab, you can click Next Record to continue working.
