- Wi-Fi router (see the section on Installing a Router below).
Note: Make sure all workstation hardware, including the camera, has been turned on and that the DCam software has been upgraded to the most recent version.
Installing a Router
The Wi-Fi router handles the signal between your phone and your workstation-computer’s Wi-Fi card. It is programmed to use an IP address that uses a series of tens, such as with the address 10.10.10.225.
A router should have been provided for you. If it has not yet been installed, follow the steps directly below. If you do not have a router, contact your supervisor.
Note: For power, the router can be plugged into your computer or into a USB wall-socket plug through a USB cable. It does not require being physically connected to the computer for communication purposes.
Step 1: Connect your Wi-Fi router to a power supply, and wait for the light to indicate the device is ready.
Step 2: In the Windows start menu, click Settings, then Network and Internet, then Wi-Fi, and then Show available networks. The network menu displays.
Step 3: From the list of routers that displays, click the name of your router: DCam Computer.
Step 4: Check the box Connect automatically, and then click Connect.
Step 5: In the network security key field, enter the password, which is gsu1894! And click Next.
Note: The password is an acronym for the Genealogical Society of Utah with its beginning year.
Step 6: If a prompt displays and asks if you want to make the router discoverable, (meaning make the router able to be found by other devices), click Yes.
Configuring DCam to Work with DMAP
Configuring DCam to work with DMAP requires transitioning to online mode, as well as entering the DCam camera operator username and password.
Step 1: Go to your phone’s settings and select DCam Computer as your Wi-Fi Network.
Note: Make sure this network is selected each time you attempt to transfer files between your phone and the DCam workstation.
Step 2: Open DCam. The DCam home screen displays.
Step 3: From the home screen, in the blue rectangle, click Preferences. The preferences dialog displays.
Step 4: Click the DCam Mode tab.
Step 5: Click the Online Mode radio button. The mobile mode check box activates.
Step 6: Check the Mobile Mode check box.
Step 7: Click Save.
Step 8: Click the Operator tab.
Step 9: In the designated fields, enter the FamilySearch operator number and the FamilySearch operator name.
Step 10: Click Save. The information you entered displays in the list of operators at the lower part of the dialog box. In the future, you can select this listing instead of reentering the information.
Step 11: When you close the dialog box, you can double-check to see that you are in online and mobile modes: the banner above the home screen reads DCam Online next to an icon that looks like a vibrating cell phone.
Step 12: From the main DCam menu above the DCam home screen, click View and then Mobile Communication. The QR code screen displays. Leave this screen open for the steps under the Configuring DMAP to Work with DCam section below.
Configuring DMAP to Work with DCAM
You configure DMAP to work with DCam by adding a workstation on the mobile app.
Step 1: In your phone’s settings, turn off all cellular (mobile) data.
Note: Do not turn on airplane mode. In addition to turning off cellular data, turning on airplane mode turns off Wi-Fi data, which you need to connect to the computer’s Wi-Fi network, DCam Computer.
Step 2: To open the DMAP mobile app, click the DMAP icon on your cell phone. The DMAP interface displays.
Step 3: To add a digital DCam workstation to your phone, click the Plus (+) near the center of the app interface. A camera window opens in which you can scan the QR code that you displayed on your DCam screen. (See Step 13 above.)

Step 4: Configure the workstation using 1 of the following methods:
- Hold the phone up to the DCam workstation screen until the QR code registers and automatically configures the workstation.
- Instead of using the QR code in the camera window on the phone’s screen, beneath the camera window, select Enter Manually. The add workstation screen displays.
- In the nickname field, enter a name to identify the workstation. You can enter any name. The nickname is for you and other users to identify that system. For example, at a site with three workstations, enter “Workstation 1” for the first system, “Workstation 2” for the second system, and “Workstation 3” for the third system.
- In the IP address field, enter the IP address of the physical DCam workstation in the archive. To find this information, in the main DCam menu above the home screen, click Help, and then select About. The IP address is listed with the software’s version number.
- Click Validate. If the connection is working, the DMAP interface verifies it. But if the phone does not connect to the workstation’s Wi-Fi, an error message displays
- In the nickname field, enter a name to identify the workstation. You can enter any name. The nickname is for you and other users to identify that system. For example, at a site with three workstations, enter “Workstation 1” for the first system, “Workstation 2” for the second system, and “Workstation 3” for the third system.

Step 5: When the connection is verified, click Save. The new workstation is added to your list of workstations.
Note: You can add multiple workstations to your mobile app if, for example, you work with more than 1 workstation.
Step 6: Once saved, to check that you have connected to the DCam workstation, click Sync (refresh) button . A blue circle surrounds a check mark, and the message “Connected to Workstation” displays.
Connecting to FamilySearch with Your Cell Phone
Once you have successfully connected DMAP to the DCam workstation in the archive, set up your connection between your phone and FamilySearch outside of the archive.
Step 1: Go to a location where you can get a solid internet connection on your phone.
Step 2: If you did not turn your cellular data back on after leaving the archive, turn it back on now.
Step 3: To reopen the mobile app, click the DMAP icon. You should be automatically prompted to sign in. If you are not prompted and have an iPhone, in the upper right corner of the interface, click the Gear icon, and select Sign in. If your phone has an Android operating system, in the upper right corner of the phone’s interface, click the three dots (upper set), and select Sign In. You are prompted to log in to FamilySearch.

Step 4: Enter your FamilySearch camera operator username and password, and click Sign In. When your phone is connected to FamilySearch, 2 things happen automatically:
- Any files that were transferred to your cell phone from the DCam workstation automatically upload to FamilySearch.
- FamilySearch downloads new files onto your phone. DMAP will automatically transfer these files to your DCam workstation the next time you connect to it.
After receiving files from FamilySearch, they are ready to automatically upload when you return to the archive and connect to your workstation. (See the section At the Archive.)
Using the Mobile App Menu
Step 1: To access the mobile app menu, click the three dots (lower set) in the upper right corner of the mobile app screen. From the menu that displays, you can do these things:
- Edit a mobile app workstation.
- View the mobile app history.
- Delete a workstation from the mobile app.
Step 2: Click View History. A history of download and upload activity displays.
Note: You can also access the mobile app history by clicking the check mark in the middle of the blue circle.
