Dcam User Guide-Capturing Images: Using the X-Key Buttons

The 16 X-Key buttons located at the bottom of the capture screen—which are mirrored on the X-Key stick—are used to capture images, retake images, evaluate images, as well as other tasks. Eight of the buttons (1–8), are predefined to default settings. The other 8 buttons (9–16), are blank, so you can assign templates to them.

Assigning a Command to an X-Key Button While in Capture Mode

You can assign X-Keys while in capture mode. Follow these steps:

Step 1: At the bottom of the DCam screen, right-click the X-Key to be assigned or reassigned.

Step 2: Caution: Although you can reassign X-Keys 1 through 8, avoid doing so. If they are reassigned from their default functions, they may no longer match the X-Key stick commands and the shortcuts, unless you change those as well.

Step 3: Click Assign Command.

Step 4: From the commands list, click the command you want to assign or reassign to the X-Key. The new or reassigned command displays on the X-Key at the bottom of the Dcam screen.

Resetting an X-Key Button

Step 1: At the bottom of the Dcam screen, right-click the X-Key that is to be reset.

Step 2: Click Reset This X-Key.

  • For X-Keys 2 through 8, the X-Key resets to the default state.
  • For X-Keys 9 through 16, the X-Key resets to a cleared state and can be reassigned.

Step 3: To reset all X-Keys to their default state, click Reset All X-Keys.
