Tasks

From the capture images panel, you can complete the following tasks:

  • Show numbers: Click Show Page Numbers to match the image numbers to the page numbers in a document. The default setting, show image numbers, matches the image number generated during capture.
  • Use Capture Mode: There are 2 capture modes represented on the capture images panel—single page and double page. The capture mode is based on the template you choose.
  • Select or create a template: Select a template to use for capturing images. A template sets the camera for the area of the copyboard to capture and reduces the extra space around an image. (See Templates)
  • Navigate through images: Navigate to flagged images.
  • Delete images: Mark and delete images.

Numbers

On the capture screen, show image number is the default setting. This setting allows you to track the number of images you have captured. Be aware that the image numbers most likely will not match the record’s page numbers. To match image page numbers to the numbers of the book or document, do the following:

Step 1: Click the thumbnail that begins the page number sequence.

Step 2: Click the radio button next to Show Page Number.

Step 3: Below the current image box, click Edit, and enter the first page number to be tracked.

Step 4: Click OK. Page numbers display in the current and next boxes for the thumbnail images.

Modifying the Sequence of Image Numbers

To modify the sequence of image numbers, as when you need to number attachments that are not a part of the existing numbering scheme, do the following:

Step 1: Click the Show Page Number radio button.

Step 2: Click Edit.

Step 3: In the Edit Current Page Number dialog, enter the page number you want using Arabic, alpha, or Roman numerals, such as 1, 2, 3; A, B, C; or i, ii, iii. For example, if an attachment is captured, you can name the current page number 22A.

Step 4: You can select how you want the current page number to be applied: first to this image only, second to have no number, or third to increase from this page number forward by selecting Anchor.

Step 5: In the Edit Next Page Number dialog, enter the number that you would like associated with the next image you capture. For example, if there are multiple attachments for a single page, and you entered 22A in the current page number dialog, you can number the next image 22B.

Step 6: If you need to fix a page number, DCam automatically adjusts all of the page numbers up to an anchor-page number. On thumbnail images, anchors are identified by the anchor symbol.

Step 7: To change the page number for a past image, select the thumbnail image, and click Edit. For example, if a page is captured that does not have a page number, click on that thumbnail, click Edit, and check the option for No Number on Image. This will remove the number from this image and renumber all others from the point of the anchor.

Selecting a Capture Mode

Capture Mode

There are 2 capture modes available in DCam: single page and double page. The capture mode that is highlighted is based on the template you choose.

  • Single page capture mode
  • Double page capture mode

Note: There is an additional left and right page capture mode that is only used in rare cases when books are extremely large or wide. If project requirements specify the use of this mode, contact your supervisor to obtain the necessary password to enable it. (See Capturing Images Using the Left and Right Page Capture Mode.)

The capture mode you choose depends on the type of records you will capture. Single page capture is used to capture loose pages. Double page capture is used to capture the right and left pages of a document, such as a book. You can move between capture modes as you need to.

These modes are generally based on the template that is being used to capture the group of records on which you are basing the folder. Single page capture mode can be used without a template. However, double page capture mode must be associated with a double crop template.

Attachments are extra pages that are associated with or attached to a base page. You can use either the single page capture mode or double page capture mode to capture them. Once captured, the attached image is always associated with its base-page image, and the attached image is marked with a paper clip icon. (See Capturing Attachments.)

Selecting a Template

Click the Template drop-down menu and select from the currently available templates to use for capturing images. Autosplit and single page autocrop templates are generic double- and single-page templates that are predefined in DCam. You can create templates to meet your specific capture needs. At the top of the capture images panel, click the Templates tab, or click the Template X-Key button. (See Templates.)

Navigation is used as part of the image quality check process. (See Image Quality Checks During Image Capture.)

Deleting Images

You may need to delete images if 1 of the following occurs:

  • A page is accidentally captured twice.
  • The blank copyboard has accidentally been copied.
  • A page is misfiled and should be included in a different folder.
  • A document that is filed with a project has been captured, but it is not authorized to be captured.

To delete thumbnail images, do the following:
Step 1: Select 1 or more thumbnail images and click Mark, or use the Delete key on your keyboard. You can also select all thumbnail images. To do so, click Mark All. The selected images show a red X.

Delete Marked Images

Step 2: To quickly select a series of images to mark and delete, click the first thumbnail image in the series; then hold down the Shift key, and click the last thumbnail image in the series.

Step 3: When the images are highlighted, release the Shift key. All images in the series are selected.

Note: You can also unmark some or all marked thumbnail images. To do so, click the Unmark and Unmark All buttons.

Step 4: Click Delete.
