Free Guide to Kent England Ancestors

canterburycathedral

FamilySearch is pleased to announce a new online guide to tracing ancestors in the ceremonial County of Kent England. Kent's many historical attractions include Canterbury Cathedral (pictured to the left), Gravesend -- the last stop for many ships traveling down the River Thames from London, and the White Cliffs of Dover -- where you can look across the English Channel and see France on a clear day. The guide has been published in the FamilySearch Research Wiki.

Features include articles on each of Kent's 400 Anglican parishes loaded with descriptions of records available online at major websites Ancestry.co.uk, BritishOrigins.com, FamilyRelativesFamilySearch.org, FindMyPast.co.uk, FreeRegTheGenealogist.co.uk, Google Books, Internet Archive, Kent Online Parish Clerks, and Medway Ancestors among others.

Genealogists will find tables describing where to find parish registers online, maps to pinpoint places Kentish ancestors lived, wills of the county's residents, and learn how to find and use major Kent archives and libraries, such as the Kent History and Library Centre, Canterbury Cathedral Archives, Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies, The National Archives, and the Society of Genealogists Library.

Here's an example of what you'll find on a parish page:
