Become a FamilySearch Affiliate

Affiliates offer access to FamilySearch’s digital genealogical collections that are otherwise accessible only through a FamilySearch center. Affiliates may be a public or higher education library, archive, museum, cultural center, or genealogical or historical society.

Hundreds of FamilySearch affiliates are helping extend FamilySearch services to millions of people worldwide. Although FamilySearch manages the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, and over 5,400 FamilySearch centers throughout the world, it recognizes the invaluable need for library affiliates to help more patrons make personal family history connections.

Additional benefits of an affiliate library are that they are usually open to the public for more hours than most FamilySearch centers, offer historical records in the library's historical and genealogical collection, have access to additional records through the library’s interlibrary loan system, offer research assistance, and have media conversion resources.

There is no cost to be an affiliate.

Becoming an affiliate grants you and your patrons access to over 2 billion digitized records, including approximately 400 million images that are currently not available to the public outside of an affiliate or a FamilySearch center.

Some record custodians impose restrictions on how broadly FamilySearch can distribute their records.

FamilySearch works with record custodians to provide the broadest access to historical records for the most people possible. If full public access cannot be attained for specific record collections, FamilySearch works to provide free access to those records through its physical locations and may also seek online access for specific groups.
