This retrospective index "is a comprehensive place, subject, and surname index to articles from the broadest spectrum of English-languages and French-Canadian genealogy and local history periodicals.".
After researchers have identified a citation in the index, they will need to look up a four letter journal code in Appendix A, B, or C to determine the title of the publication.

The library has received two installments (1988 and 1990) of the proposed 16 vol. set. Each installment contains 4 volumes. Because each installment is not cumulative, researchers will need to check the listings in both installments in order to get complete information about what is available in the Retrospective set. The fourth installment, is expected to be a cumulative 16 volume set. All four installments will be sorted into one alphabet.

Der Abschnitt „Film/Digitale Notizen“ enthält eine Beschreibung des Mikrofilms oder Mikrofiches sowie die entsprechende Nummer. Einige FamilySearch Center und angeschlossene Archive bewahren Sammlungen von zuvor verliehenen Mikrofilmen oder Mikrofiches auf. Durch ein Kamera-Icon wird kenntlich gemacht, dass ein Artikel in digitaler Form online zugänglich ist.
Alle Mikrofilme wurden bereits digitalisiert. Mikrofiches werden derzeit digitalisiert. Dies sind Gründe, warum Aufnahmen von Mikrofilmen oder Mikrofiches vielleicht noch nicht in digitaler Form auf FamilySearch.org verfügbar sind:
- Das Scannen des Mikrofiches ist erst für einen zukünftigen Zeitpunkt geplant.
- Der Mikrofilm oder Mikrofiche wurde möglicherweise bereits gescannt, doch unterliegt er einer vertraglichen, datenschutzrechtlichen oder sonstigen Zugriffsbeschränkung. FamilySearch scheut keine Mühen, den Zugriff zu ermöglichen. Dies ist jedoch von den Entscheidungen der Dokumentenverwalter und den geltenden Gesetzen abhängig.
- Möglicherweise musst du in einem FamilySearch Center oder in der FamilySearch Library sein, um auf Digitalaufnahmen von Mikrofilmen und Mikrofiches zugreifen zu können. Manche erfordern vielleicht auch, dass du bei deinem FamilySearch-Account angemeldet bist.
