Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Gibson (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from Denmark, England, Fiji Islands, India, Ireland, Norway, Prussia, Scotland, and Sweden. Some allied families came from Czechoslovakia and Germany. Gibsons are a recognized sept of the Clan Buchanan. Many probably descend from Gilbert Buchanan. In the 1600's, some Gibsons immigrated to Barbados and Jamaica (West Indies), and to New England, especially Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. In the 1700's, some settled in Quebec and Nova Scotia (Canada), Australia, St. John Island, the Spanish Territory, and in Delaware, Kentucky, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Vermont. During the 1800's, some moved to Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Upper Canada, Cuba, India, and to Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Later descendants also lived in Alberta (Canada), and in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nebraska, New Mexico, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and elsewhere. Some had American Indian bloodlines. Some had African American bloodlines. Some were adopted; and some legally changed their names.
