Journal for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Brooking (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from the English Counties of Devon and Cornwall, and from Ireland and Wales as early as the 15th Century. About 23 key ancestors or family groups have been identified. Among them are William Brooking who lived in Ermington, Devon in the 15th Century; James Brookin(g) who was possibly born in Ughborough; William Brooking who was married in Modbury in 1767; Caleb Brooking who was baptised in Totnes in 1611; the sailor, Robert Brooking who was baptised in Widcombe in the Moor in 1760; Elizabeth Brooking and her son, William who was baptised in 1716 at Winkleigh, a small village north of Okehampton; John Brooking of Stokenham, Devon; John Brooking of Ugborough; Elizabeth Brooking who married John James January in 1779 at St. Andrew's Plymouth; George Brookins who was born in Farmington, Gloucestershire in 1699; Edward Brooking who was probably born in Devon, and who died in Newfoundland in 1875; and others. Some Brooking families immigrated to Australia, Brazil, Canada, New Zealand, Portugal, South Africa, and the United States. Information about contemporary Brooking members are also included.
