The Family name indexes to grants, deeds, court proceedings, wills, etc. were done by Alvin T. Embrey in 1928 for the Virginia State Library.
Some pages are badly damaged with parts missing and water stains. Handwriting sometimes has faded and is hard to read.
Films' title boards are not always accurate.
Rappahannock County, also known as Old Rappahannock County, was created in 1656 from Lancaster County. It became extinct in 1692 when it was divided into Essex and Richmond counties. Its records are housed in Essex County. Old Rappahannock County should not be confused with the new Rappahannock County which was created in 1833 from Culpeper County.
Early volumes contain deeds, grants, wills, estate accounts and sales, estate settlements, inventories and appraisements, court orders, power of attorneys, etc. Later volumes deal mainly with deed records.
Includes general indexes. Some volumes are also individually indexed.
