Understanding "born in the covenant" (BIC)

"Born in the covenant" indicates that a child was born after their parents were sealed in the temple. This means that the child is automatically sealed to their parents for eternity. The "born in the covenant" status is recorded in the person’s Church membership record by the Membership Department and appears in Family Tree.

How "born in the covenant" appears in Family Tree

"Born in the covenant" is displayed in Family Tree based on the parents' status:

  • Both parents deceased:
    • The Sealing to Parents ordinance shows "Not Needed."
    • A message displays: "This person was born in the covenant and does not need to be sealed to parents."
    • The full names of the deceased parents are included.
  • One or both parents living:
    • The Sealing to Parents ordinance shows "Completed."
    • A message displays: "Born in the Covenant."
    • Names of living parents do not appear for privacy.
