Find answers to the following questions about the new web-based indexing program:
What are some advantages of this new web-based program?
Easy access: You will be able to index on any computer, laptop, or tablet that has access to the web.
Simple to use: The new system is much easier to learn and navigate.
Quick start: Since it is a web application, there is nothing to download. Just click a link and get started indexing right away.
Better group features: You can now be a part of multiple groups or even create a group of your own! Group management and reporting features have been greatly improved.
Can I still use the current program?
Yes, you can use the current program until it is retired sometime in 2018.
When should I begin rolling this out to my stake members?
FamilySearch will send announcements out to individual stakes between May and August, but you many begin your training efforts any time after May 1.
Can indexers in my stake get started with web indexing even before it’s rolled out to our stake?
Yes, once the link is public, anyone can use web indexing.
What support will I get from FamilySearch during this transition?
FamilySearch provides an online support community for all Temple and Family History Consultants-Indexing. Click here to request to join. (English only)
Telephone and email support is available through normal support channels.
FamilySearch will provide online tutorials to walk indexers through their first experience.
What can I tell indexers who are not excited about the change?
Almost everyone who uses web indexing enjoys indexing in the new program. However, experienced indexers who know all the tricks of the current program will find web indexing lacks some of the features that they are used to. Others may be reluctant to learn a new program. There are two things you can share:
- The current program is under constant development and will add the missing features to the new program over time.
- Throughout 2017, indexers are welcome to continue indexing in the current program while they prefer it. Encourage them to index in the new program on occasion so they can give feedback on the features they miss the most.
Will you be building an offline mode into the web program?
