Are you excited for RootsTech 2019?

Each year tens of thousands of family history fans descend on the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, for the world’s largest family history conference. Hosted annually by FamilySearch, RootsTech has become the premier family history event for both the general public and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. RootsTech 2019 is scheduled for February 27–March 2, 2019.

Many of those who attend RootsTech, either in person or by using the free live stream video, are temple and family history consultants or others with callings related to family history. Those who have participated in the past have discovered that it’s one of the best opportunities to receive meaningful training and inspiration for their calling.

Since registration for the event recently opened, now is a good time to consider how you might participate this year.

Attending in Person

If you attend the event in person, you’ll be amazed by what you see. RootsTech’s offerings are for everyone and provide multiple learning opportunities for family historians at any level of experience. The conference features include:

  • 300+ breakout sessions on topics such as DNA, preserving family photos, and writing family histories
  • A large expo hall with family history products and services
  • Daily inspirational keynote sessions
  • Entertaining evening events

There are also classes about how to use FamilySearch.org in your research, how to help others use FamilySearch, and more! Perhaps the most beneficial thing for someone with a family history calling are the consultant-specific classes that provide tips and best practices for preparing spiritual, one-on-one family history experiences.

Individuals with a family history calling are eligible to attend at a discounted rate. Anyone with a family history calling can purchase a full, 4-day RootsTech 2019 conference pass for $149—just use the promotional code 19CALLING during the online registration process.

Visit RootsTech.org for more information and to register.

  1. We are Area Temple and Family History Consultants…and would like to attend RootsTech 2019. How do we take advantage of the Consultant discount? thanks

  2. Trying to register for 2019…. all I get is the “spinning wheel” for HOURS. I tried this through Family Search Consultant and the regular web site…both the same “spinning wheel”…. Bryant Ridgway, Family History Director, Boulder Creek Stake FHC (I don’t have the “ID code with me to add”)

  3. I have saved the schedule of what I saw was to be streamed live on each day, but no where did I see any talks that seemed to be on finding and using pension files, uncovering truths in old family photos or how to use many features in Family Search unless this last is “What’s New at Family Search with Ron Tanner. I hope that all the classes especially geared to Temple & Family History Consultants will be able to be viewed AFTER Roots Tech for some time which will be good for training all Tfs Consultants and especially those new to the calling. Please let us know if this is the case. Thanks for all you can do for those of us who live far away and cannot come to SL. Some new to a calling involving Family History are the RS counsellors who now have FH responsibilities to consider as an important part of RS. I am overjoyed at this development!

  4. Want to attend but do not have funds until the 23rd, is not the problem though… I can get the discount for myself as a family history consultant but do I have to register for my wife separately and is hers full price? Also, how likely is it the on the 23rd some of the options for the full price will be booked up?
