  1. Several months ago I asked about getting family information from Japan. The response was “we are working on that.” My wife is Japanese and we are trying to get her family’s history. She is from Wakayama-ken, in a small town called Nachi-san. It is a Japanese sacred site and has lots of temples and shrine. She tried two years ago, when she visited her family with her brother and the records office commented tha they were destroying everything older than 100 years. Can that be true? Is there a Family Search in Wakayama-ken that I can contact? Thank you for all your help & hard work.

  2. This has to be the best family search website available to anyone. It really is amazing that so much information has been gathered and continues to be gathered. An amazing achievement.

  3. I continually watch the updates on FamilySearch and other genealogical websites and I have a problem understanding something. In Connecticut, there are marriage and birth records available for before 1870 and after 1959 but absolutely nothing in between. The data is apparently available because individual do post small groups of specific data from time to time, but the big genealogical sites don’t pick up that data nor do they add anything to it. Is it that Connecticut too small a state to bother with? Just as an aside, I subscribed to Ancestry.com for many years and asked this question many times and never got a response.

    1. Stephen, a person who has performed updates for FamilySearch and the National Archives, each individual indexing records has the option to select the records they want to work on. Records can be pulled into the indexers selection in bacthes or individual data sets. I have come across records that are not legible due to handwriting styles and/or poor images. These records should not and cannot be indexed by volunteers. You would think small states should have complete record indexed, however this is not the case. Sometimes it is easier to complete records that are legible and easy on the eye to read.

  4. It is so distressing that I now have to make a trip downtown to the Public Library to view records on Family Search. I have NEVER been able to reach anyone at the local Mormon Church or Family History Center, which is closer to my home.
I have been trying to find a way to look at a microfilm of a genealogy book https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/633365?availability=Family%20History%20Library
    — so far, have not been able to look at it. It is not shown on Worldcat to be in any other library except yours. I even googled the authors and tried to contact them by telephone.

  5. Thanks for all your efforts. I have ancestors from British Guiana and it is next to impossible to obtain any BMD records from this country. Is there anything on the radar or is this country simply too uncooperative?

  6. Hello,
I found a letter from my great aunt in wich she mentioned that her uncle told her when she was younger that she had Aunts in Malta. My great Aunt has since passed away. How do I even research that . I don’t know if they were married. if not there surname would either be Reid,Morrison Spencer, Carter or Jackson. I know little or nothing of the families that didn’t come out to Australia. I believe the Reid/Spencer families had money but it is family talk and i’ve learned not to trust a lot of that sort of talk.Any idea how I can find this information out?

  7. There is many records in America that are not accessible to familysearch, and it is really annoying. Why do we have to go into a familysearch bldg just to do research when I could get it all done in my home. So many Images are locked. Then you can basically only use the familysearch bldg on Saturday, and it’s closed after 12 noon . Really? Does the church realize that most people work a real job? Guess it was meant for old folk only. No real research can be done unless you go to slc familysearch bldg otherwise. Please keep all familysearch blgs open on Saturday until 10 pm.! Why are not more records indexed here in Utah also. So many only on microfilm. Utah is actually one of the worst places for research. So many things missing here. Cmon Utah! Your the primary, and yet only maybe 60% is available? Ridiculous. Especially all files from the 1800s is hard to find. Record keeping people. Hard to believe I know.

  8. I can’t thank all your researchers enough. Keep up your amazing work. I have been a member for well over ten years and your sight is still the best and most comprehensive. Thank you

  9. I’m trying to get some information on Fred Kendall last known to have lived in Maine around 1960 or so.
Found his name on the obituary for George J. Kendall of Thetford Vt. Dated 11/1998 as the first of three
Brothers. I’m a son of Ted Kendall and remember meeting him at his home in Maine. I’m trying to put together more family record’s showing uncle Fred Kendall and his family as related to my own family.

  10. In a very short time my ward will organize family history day with our youth. I have a question how to delete names if I make mistakes. Pls help me

    1. That’s a great question! Click here to read an article that explains how you can delete a person in the family tree. However, there are alternatives to fixing mistakes that are even better. Click here to read more about that. Good luck with your activity!
