Have you ever watched BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are? If so, buckle up for some fun this year because Nick Barratt, the TV show’s genealogical consultant, is a RootsTech Connect emcee!
Who Is Nick Barratt?
Nick is a historian. He has been one since he was young. Pursuing his early interest in history has led him to notable achievements. To list a few: obtaining a Ph.D. in history from King’s College in London, becoming University of Nottingham’s Honorary Associate Professor in Public History, completing several genealogical and historical research books, and becoming president of the Federation of Family History Societies.
What Does He Do?
Nick takes his passion for history and quite literally shares it with the world. Typically, when you think historian, you might picture someone hiding in the deep corners of the archives. But Nick is not hiding. He projects his talent and gift for research across television and radio stations in many series well beyond the Who Do You Think You Are? series. He inspires individuals and families from England and Australia to the United States and Ireland to draw strength from their heritage.
As he says on his website, “My professional career … has allowed me to share the importance of history and heritage, whether its national, community, or personal, with a wide audience, and hopefully show people that an understanding of the past is even more important than ever for the future of our own lives and society.”
A better question might be, “Why not RootsTech?” Nick Barratt is both a genealogical researcher and experienced with modern media. Even beyond writing and researching, Nick makes a career of speaking and sharing his wealth of knowledge. With RootsTech going virtual this year and doing everything via a computer, phone, or tablet screen, Nick is just the man for the job.
