FamilySearch.org Now Welcomes You in Your Language

November 16, 2012  - by

FamilySearch is pleased to launch a new FamilySearch.org experience in international languages. This is the first of a series of updates that FamilySearch will be making within the next few months in order to improve everyone’s experience on the site. Users whose browsers are set to French, Italian, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean as their default language will now see a localized home page in their language.

As you visit the page and navigate through the new design, you will notice a sub navigation bar with links to resources on the English familysearch.org home page. These will remain available until they become fully functional in their respective language.

The ability to search in your language through our database is one of the features, which is not yet ready, but it is coming soon.

We have maintained a link to the current search page from this sub navigation bar. You may also research our records through this link at the bottom right corner of the page.

This is a very exciting time at FamilySearch. You will be able to see much more as additional portions of the site are made available in your language.
FamilySearch is the largest genealogy organization in the world. Millions of people use FamilySearch records, resources, and services each year to learn more about their family history. We are pleased to present to you this first step in bringing all of our services to you in your language.

  1. We are excited about the progress in Family Search, including Family Tree! My wife and I serve as full time missionaries on the B-1 International floor in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.

While some people naturally resist change, we find that most are pleased and enthusiastic with what they can now do. Thank you for working so hard to help us do the Lord’s work.

  2. When I went to my family tree, everything was suddenly in Spanish, including the tutorial. I did not ask for “spanish”, I only speak/understand English!

    1. Not sure how you got it changed to Russian but sometimes those things happen and it’s hard to know why. Don’t worry though, changing it back is an easy thing to fix. To change the language you want FamilySearch to appear in, follow the steps below:

      1. Go to the FamilySearch home page. It’s the page with the Asian family on the front.

      2. Go to the bottom of the home page and find the link titled Language. Since your screen is in Russian, the link will be the one on the far right. It should look like this: Pусский.

      3. Click the Language link (Pусский.)

      4. You will see two rows on language options (10 in all). Click English (or whatever other language you prefer to see.)

This should change your screen back to English.
