They’re Here! FamilySearch Introduces Two New Mobile Apps

July 15, 2014  - by

We live in a mobile world. You should be able to connect with your ancestors wherever you are. FamilySearch has released two new mobile apps that will make it easy to do just that. With FamilySearch Tree and FamilySearch Memories you can add memories and sources of your relatives on the go. Everything you add will sync with FamilySearch.org, so information will be accessible from any device and will be preserved for future generations. Both apps are free.

FamilySearch Tree

FamilySearch Tree is a mobile companion to FamilySearch.org. This app makes it easy to add photos, stories, and audio recordings to ancestors in the tree. Adding or updating ancestor details like names, dates, and relationships is not currently available, but is coming soon.

  • Browse your family branches and see portraits of relatives you’ve never seen.
  • Discover facts, documents, stories, photos, and recordings about your ancestors.
  • Easily add memories and records about your relatives.
  • Preserve and share those old photos and documents that are hidden away in storage.
  • Available for iOS 7+ and Android 2.3+

FamilySearch Memories

FamilySearch Memories makes collecting, preserving, and sharing your favorite family memories (photos, stories, and spoken words) easy and convenient wherever you are. You could be the one everyone thanks for saving the most meaningful memories.

  • Snap photos of any family moment, like recitals, dates, graduations, reunions, and memorials.
  • Take photos of old photos and documents.
  • Record audio interviews with family members and capture details of their life stories and favorite memories.
  • Write family stories, jokes, and sayings with the keyboard, or use the mic key to capture what you say.
  • Enrich written stories by adding descriptive photos.
  • Identify and tag relatives within a memory to automatically add it to their collection in Family Tree.
  • Available for iOS 7+

    1. Leslie, as far as I know there isn’t one in the app store at the moment. Any plans to release a new indexing app will be posted here on the blog, so keep checking back for updates!

    1. The mobile apps are on the Apple app store and the Google play store. Search for FamilySearch Tree.

    1. The old app was simply a test. There may be one in the future but there isn’t anything being created as of right now other than the browser-based indexing that will allow you to index from a tablet.

  2. your site shows my ancestorJohn Ball born in 1538 and died in 1975 that would have made him for 437 years old.

    1. This is a great opportunity for you to further research this person and find records that set the dates straight. Once you find the proof you need, you can edit those years yourself.

  3. Is there a reason I can’t see the green temple icons while using the iPad app?… I CAN see them while using your website Familysearch.org in the PC.

    1. There are two features on the Mobile Tree app where you can see green temple icons. One feature is called Ancestors with Tasks and it is on the tab called More at the bottom of the app. 2) When you are on a person page, there is a icon (three dots) for extra menu items for features for that person. There is a menu item called Descendants with Tasks.
The pedigree view does not show hints or green temple icons.

  4. First time on this site. Looking forward to exploring my family tree, and, making connections. Thank you
