FamilySearch Adds More Than 9.8 Million Indexed Records and Images for Canada, Costa Rica, Croatia, Jamaica, Peru, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and the United States

FamilySearch has added to its collections more than 9.8 million indexed records and images for Canada, Costa Rica, Croatia, Jamaica, Peru, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and the United States. Notable collection updates include 2,983,594 indexed records from the Croatia, Church Books, 1516–1994 collection; 57,446 indexed records and 1,785,969 images from the Jamaica, Civil Registration, 1880–1999 collection; and 1,087,758 indexed records from the Costa Rica Civil Registration, 1860–1975 collection. See the table below for the full list of updates. Search these diverse collections and more than 3.5 billion other records for free at FamilySearch.org.

Searchable historic records are made available on FamilySearch.org through the help of thousands of volunteers from around the world. These volunteers transcribe (index) information from digital copies of handwritten records to make them easily searchable online. More volunteers are needed (particularly those who can read foreign languages) to keep pace with the large number of digital images being published online at FamilySearch.org. The Puerto Rico records opened a new door for me for a family line that migrated from Copenhagen, Denmark, to St Croix, to Puerto Rico, Cuba, South America, and the USA. Important records to solidify research on a gateway ancestor leading back to King Chistopher II of Denmark.

  2. A fire destroyed most of the civil war records concerning the surnames beginning with the letter “s”. It may be possible to acertaine most, if not all, of these records through research into other sources.

  3. Love the gospel and all you are doing BUT please help those of us with Age Related Macular Degenerated and restrict all text to black and white. Even this page. We cannot read text in color. Thank you for any changes. june sanetra
