FALL 2011 CLASS SCHEDULE


Thursday, Sept. 8th - 7 PM Internet Search Engines and Search Limiters

The internet is wonderful for finding family history records…if you can actually sort and find what you need.


Sunday, Sept. 11th - 5:30PM Overview of New FamilySearch

The first part of the class will be a quick refresher for those who need to get going again after the summer. Individual help available after.


Thursday, Sept.15th - 7 PM Preparing Names for Temple Work

Class will discuss procedures and policies for clearing names and how to prepare FOR's to take to the temple.


Sunday, Sept.18th - 5:30 PM Dropbox and Backing Up Data

Backing up family history data is critical. Come learn different methods to back up your information-- before it is too late!


Sunday, Sept. 18th - 6:30PM Personal Research Toolbox

Simple way to track the websites you use. Store your toolbox in the cloud or on a jump drive.
NOTE: There will be a “refreshment break” between these two classes. These classes are set up to be a foundation that can be built on in other classes that will follow. These are separate classes, but the “toolbox” class will also discuss Dropbox.


Thursday, Sept. 22nd - 7 PM FamilySearch.org--Records

Millions of records have been added to FamilySearch.org. Come learn how to effectively search for the information you need.


Sunday, Sept 25th - 5:30 PM FamilySearch.org—Beyond Record Search

Come learn to make use of Wiki, Library Catalog, Online Classes and Forums.


Thursday, Sept. 29th - 7 PM How to Use Ancestry.com

More effectively learn to find what you want on Ancestry.com instead of looking through pages and pages of non-relevant records.



October 2nd General Conference Family History Center Closed


Sunday, Oct. 9th - 5:30 PM United States Census Records

Learn the best online sources for census records and how to use the information they contain.


Thursday, Oct.13th - 7 PM State Census Records

State Census Records are an often overlooked resource that will help you fill in the gaps in your family records.


Sunday, Oct.16th - 5:30 PM Online Digital Newspapers

Class will cover online digital newspapers—where to find them and how to search them.


Thursday, Oct.20th - 7 PM Military Records

The only good thing about war is it creates a lot of records. There is a big push right now to digitize military records.


Sunday, Oct.23rd - 5:30 PM Vital Records

Searching for online vital records and locating sources to obtain copies of non-digitized records.


Thursday, Oct.27th - 7 PM Cemetery Records

Keys to finding out about a person’s life are often contained in the records of their death and burial.


Sunday, Oct.30th - 5:30 PM LDS Ancestry--Part 1

Learn to effectively search LDS records. This class goes beyond the “Over the Plains Pioneer” ancestry.


Sunday Nov.6th - 5:30 PM LDS Ancestry--Part 2

Continuation of class held on October 30th.


Thursday, Nov.10th - 7 PM Bridges-- which one is for me?

Class will compare the programs Ancestral Quest, RootsMagic and Legacy. These programs all sync with NFS and have free versions available.


Sunday, Nov.13th - 5:30 PM--Ancestral Quest

Basic overview of these programs with emphasis on getting started, data entry and syncing with New FamilySearch.


Thursday, Nov.17th - 7 PM---RootsMagic


Sunday, Nov.20th - 5:30 PM---Legacy


Staff and Ward Family History Consultant Training: Oct. 6th and Nov.3rd @ 7 PM Staff Training Meetings
