History
Parent County
1856--Lampasas County was created 1 February 1856 from Bell and Travis Counties. County seat: Lampasas [2]
Boundary Changes
1858--The northeastern corner of Lampasas County became part of Hamilton County.
1873-- An act of the legislature extended the southern boundary of Lampasas County thirty miles into Burnet County. In 1874 the boundary was returned to its previous position.
1887--Northern and northwestern sections of Lampasas County became part of Mills County [3]
Record Loss
1870, 1871, 1875--County records were destroyed by fire or flood in in 1870, 1871, and 1875.
1871--On December 24 (or 27), 1871 fire destroyed the frame building used as the Lampasas County Courthouse. All records were destroyed. [4]
1873--The courthouse and much of the town of Lampasas was damaged extensively by heavy rains and flooding on September 27, 1873. Several people were killed in the flood. The remaining records were either damaged or destroyed.
