Public domain license templates
- See also Template:Cc-zero, a Creative Commons public domain license.
Template:PD
- Avoid {{PD}}, which is too generic. Where possible, always use more specific public domain (PD) templates like {{PD-author}}, or for your own work {{PD-self}}, or {{PD-old-auto}} (with an author-death-year parameter) if the old copyright has expired.

This file has been released into the public domain by the copyright holder, its copyright has expired, or it is ineligible for copyright. This applies worldwide. |
Template:PD-Art
The official position taken by the Wikimedia Foundation is that "faithful reproductions of two-dimensional public domain works of art are public domain, and that claims to the contrary represent an assault on the very concept of a public domain". For details, see When to use the PD-Art tag. |

Template:PD-Gutenberg

|
This image comes from the Project Gutenberg archives. This is an image that has come from a book or document for which the copyright has expired and this image is in the public domain. |
Template:PD-ineligible
|
|
This image is ineligible for copyright and therefore is in the public domain, because it consists entirely of information that is common property and contains no original authorship. |
If you provide the death year of the author (for example, 1941) as a parameter (for example, {{PD-old-auto|1941}}), this template automatically calculates and displays the longest-allowable copyright span as the life of the author plus either 70, 75, 80, 90, or 100 years. As years pass, the license span will change, because more years will have elapsed since the life of that author. Once this template is used, there is no need to re-edit the page, because it will automatically adjust for the actual year (currently: 2013), in the future. For example, {{PD-old-auto|1941}} displays as:

This image (or other media file) is in the public domain because its copyright has expired. This applies to the United States, Australia, the European Union and those countries with a copyright term of life of the author plus 70 years. Note that a few countries have copyright terms longer than 70 years: Mexico has 100 years, Colombia has 80 years, and Guatemala and Samoa have 75 years. This image may not be in the public domain in these countries, which moreover do not implement the rule of the shorter term. Côte d'Ivoire has a general copyright term of 99 years and Honduras has 75 years, but they do implement that rule of the shorter term. |
- Template:PD-old-70. Where possible, avoid using {{PD-old-70}} directly. Prefer {{PD-old-auto}} with an author's-death-year parameter.
