Moderators and Adopters

Focus for first meeting of the month.

  • Defaults - setting preferences to remind users to provide edit summaries.  I understand that Wikipedia rolls back any edit that doesn't come with a summary.  Should we look at a similar policy to help encourage that practice?  Lise 20:07, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
  • Do we want to have the system default to prompting people to enter edit summaries if they miss them? Consensus of those who voiced their opinion was yes. Summaries are important. The suggestion will be added to Get Satisfaction.

Style Guide Discussions

Pseudo-namespace naming schemes - should we define a pattern? If so, do we go back to change already existing articles to match naming scheme? Lise 20:07, 6 March 2012 (UTC)


  • Discussed naming schemes, why Historical Records are currently named as they are, and that there are several examples of groups of articles that might be best represented by using a "pseudo-namespace" (using a consistent prefix).  Some examples of groups of articles currently in the wiki:
    • Indexing
    • Historical Records Collections
    • Genealogy Web Masters
    • others?
  • Janell mentioned that the way people read web content is such that repeated content is skimmed/skipped. For that reason, it might make sense to stop including FamilySearch in article names. Example: indexing article begin "FamilySearch_Indexing:" Is it really helpful to readers to have "FamilySearch" in that name?

We will discuss this topic further in next week's meeting.
