History

Parent County

1876--Castro County was created 21 August 1876 from Bexar Land District. County seat: Dimmitt ^[2]

The county was named for Henri Castro, (1786-1865), empresario and founder of Castro's colony, was born in the department of Landes, France, in July 1786.
