The Santa Fe Railroad made arrangements that led to the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad being built from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Flagstaff, Arizona, to Los Angeles, California in 1885, and to eventual takeover of those tracks.[1] These tracks became the main route to Los Angeles for the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway.

Settlers along this route were most likely from Midwestern states like Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, or Kansas. They would have settled in New Mexico, Arizona, or California.
