- DIOCESE of ZULIA (Inglés)
The Catholic Church celebrates with joy the Centenary of the Diocese of the Zuila, which was erected on July 28 of 1897 by Pope Leon XII by means of the apostolic letters “Supremum Catholicam Ecclesiam”. That Diocesis, that is a continuation of the Arquidiócesis de Maracaibo has been first of other three ecclesiastical circumscriptions: two of them totally from Zulia, the Vatican of Machiques and the Diocese of Cabimas, and third, partially, the Diocese of El Vigia- San Carlos of Zulia. Its history began the 8 of September of 1529. That day the priest JUAN RODRIGUEZ ROBLEDO stepped on zulian land, with the Asombrio Alfinger expedition. The Eucharistic Celebration marked the beginning of the Church in that land to be later known as Zulia.
