Summary

The civil parish of Taney is located in South county Dublin and about 7 km (4 miles) south of Dublin city centre. The parish is included in the Poor Law Union / Civil Registration Distrct of Rathdown.

Catholic

Two Catholic parishes covered the Civil parish of Taney and some boundaries changed and a new parish was later established to cover areas to the east as populations increased over time.

Initially the civil parish of Taney was included in the RC parish of Booterstown *, and in 1856 the new parish of Dundrum was formed which covered the same area as the civil parish.

• Note : At times the Church of Ireland parish of Booterstown also covered parts of the Civil Parishes of Donnybrook, Kilmacud, Monkstown, Rathfarnham and Stillorgan

Dundrum : Baptism and marriage records go back to August 1856

Booterstown : Baptism records go back to 1755, marriages to 1756

Church of Ireland

The Church of Ireland of parish for the area is also named Taney and covers the same area. The original church named St Nahi's was located near to Dundrum village and was superceeded in 1818 by a new church named Christ Church on Taney hill a short distance to the east.

There is also a chapel of ease in the parish on Foster avenue named St. Thomas, which was built in 1874.

Baptism records for the parish go back to 1791, marriages to 1795 and burials to 1814.
