Talk:United States CensusEdit This Page
From FamilySearch Wiki
18 February 2009 (RobertRaymondUT): There doesn't seem to be a good place on this page to put a list of good resources for learning more about the census. The references contain some of the best, but I'd also like to see these listed:
- Dollarhide, William. The census book : a genealogist's guide to federal census facts, schedules and indexes ; with master extraction forms for federal census schedules, 1790-1930. Bountiful, Utah : Heritage Quest, 1999. (FHL book 973 X27d) The CD-ROM edition of the book is viewable at HeritageQuest online, through most public library websites by following these links: Search Census, Browse, and Help with the Federal Census.
[*** I wonder if the URL is fairly independent of library? At the FHL the URLs are
HeritageQuest online: http://www.heritagequestonline.com
Search Census: http://persi.heritagequestonline.com/hqoweb/library/do/census/search/basic
Browse: http://persi.heritagequestonline.com/hqoweb/library/do/census/browse
Help with the Federal Census: Don't post this link. There are rights/authentication issues. ***]
- Pierce, Alycon Trubey. “In Praise of Errors Made by Census Enumerators.” National Genealogical Society Quarterly, 81:51-55 (Mar. 1993).
- Pierce, Alycon Trubey. “Update: More Praise for Census ‘Errors’.” National Genealogical Society Quarterly, 82:216-20 (Sept. 1994).
Moved old "United States Census" page to "United States Federal Census" page to make room for a new census home page. Diltsgd 23:22, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
