MacPherson is not "son of Pherson", it is the son of "pearsan" (now "pears'-eaglais"). Generally "Mac" alters the first consonant of the next part, so "Tomas" (pronounced "tomas) is Thomas, and MacThomais is pronounced Mackomish, and gives rise to names such as MacCoomb, McCombie etc.--Bellraymondmackean1 19:23, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
