Purpose of the Society
Founded in 1923, the Seattle Genealogical Society has a rich history of encouraging and supporting quality family history research in the greater Seattle area. Our library, open 30 hours per week with all volunteer labor, contains a wide range of genealogical materials (14,000+ items) focusing on Washington state and the areas from which most of our settlers originated. SGS also offers a wide range of educational opportunites for our members.
The mission of the Seattle Genealogical Society is to provide educational opportunities and to collect and disseminate quality genealogical information for family history researchers in our community.

Over the years, SGS has published a number of books. Details and ordering information are available here. We also sell unneeded donated books and periodicals through Ebay [SeaGenSoc] and seminar book sales.
Look-up Services
SGS offers research services in both our library resources and local newspapers. Fees, resources and both mail-in and online request forms are available here.

Newsletter/Periodical:
SGS produces a quarterly Newsletter that keeps our members updated about activities and issues of the Society and a semi-annual periodical, the SGS Bulletin, containing longer research and methodology articles.
Anyone is welcome to sign up for our twice monthly e-letter by completing and submitting this form.
Society Happenings
Programs
SGS offers a wide range of classes, programs and interest groups. Please check our website at seattlegenealogicalsociety.org/ [EVENTS tab] for details about our current offerings.
Seminars
SGS sponsors two all-day seminars each year. The Fall Seminar features multiple local speakers offering topics related to a single theme (October). The Spring Seminar features a nationally known speaker (May).
Board Meetings
Members are always welcome at SGS board meetings; held the 4th Thursday or each month (except Nov/Dec).

- VFW Applications -- from Post 1416 in Seattle; WWI and WWII veterans

- King County Court Records -- almost 2 million listings of civil cases in King County courts from 1850 to 1970 [available on CD at SGS Library]
