Languages spoken in Freistaat Sachsen
The people of Saxony speak in Saxon and Lausitz and in a mixture of Thuringian and East Frankish dialects. These belong to the family of East Middle German languages. In the Lausitz (a cultural area in the East of Saxony) 60.000 people speak a dialect of the West Slavic language group: Upper Sorbian. See also http://www.sachsengeschichte.de/saechsisch.html
Here is a map which shows visually what dialect groups people belong to in Saxony and the rest of Germany.
