Quick History
In 1873 Roy was settled by LDS Pioneers and stayed a small community for many years. It had a street called “Cousin Street” where until 1957 all of the residents on that road were cousins coming from the original settlers of the area. [1] Central City, Sandridge, the Basin, and Lakeview were all names that Roy went by until being named after school a teacher’s son Roy C. Peebles, that had passed away. The Post Office arrived and Roy’s name was official on 24 May 1894. [2] Roy saw a boom in its population during WWII with the addition of the Defense Supply Depot, Navy Supply Depot (now the Freeport Center) and Hill Air Force Base.Neighboring Communities
