Probate
Last wills and testaments were made by those of means, meaning they had personal property to bequeath, especially city dwellers. They would leave their last will and testament with the city court. The courts listed the testators by name with the date of deposition and publication, the name of the appointee/s, the name of the court, the date of sending and receipts of testaments.
Sometimes last wills had to be disclosed by officials or were never opened because of various reasons.
There are some records of testaments for Brandenburg available through www.familysearch.org see Family History Catalog, Keyword Search Testamentsakten.
