What's the  difference between "Research Tools" and "Topics"?

I think Research Tools are just that...tools.  While doing research, you  reach for a dictionary,  a  map, or  a  parish listing,  etc.  These are the  tools  in  the tool  box  for helping accomplish  specific  tasks.

The Topics area feels more like an encyclopedia of topics for study. This broadens the researchers perspective, deepens contextual understanding, and enhances the researchers ability to make better conclusions. G Fröberg Morris 11:50, 19 February 2008 (MST)

Dear Molly or Geoff,

   I would dearly love to add this portal to the "Countries" category. I know how to do pages, but portals are a wrinkle I haven't quite mastered. Teach me how to add a portal to a category and if that is even allowed.
