Quick History

Settled in 1855, Peterson was first known as "Weber City" and was designated the county seat in 1862. Charles Shreeve Peterson [1] was appointed the first probate judge and the name of the community was changed to Peterson in 1872. [2]

With the elevation of 9,707, Thurston Peak is the highest peak in the county. In 1861 the first public building was built. This multitask building served as a school, church and handled official county business.

About 1869 the Peterson General Store was built which housed the post office. A railroad station, the Dexter Hotel and park served as a focal points for the community.

Peterson had a passenger railroad station and stockyard located along the railroad tracks. A major attraction for many years was the Dexter Hotel and Park where many community activities were held.

  • Utah Death Certificates 1904 - 1956 -A free internet access to the 1904-1956 death certificates can be viewed on the Family Search Historical Records. Utah requires a death certificate before a burial is completed. A death certificate may contain information as to the name of the deceased, date of death, and place of death, as well as the age, birthdate, parents, gender, marital status, spouse and place of residence.
