Oganized at Raleigh, North Carolina, in May, 1861.
Disbanded and returned to North Carolina on November 12, 1861.
Many of the men transferred to the 11th North Carolina Regiment.
- Branch Light Artillery
Organized early in 1862 with men from Craven, Beaufort, and Wake counties.
This company was assigned to the 13th North Carolina Artillery Battalion on December 1, 1863, but never served with that command.
Surrendered on April 9, 1865.

Mustered into Confederate service 9 April 1865.
Surrendered at Waynesville, North Carolina, in May 1865.
- Infantry Regiment, Thomas' North Carolina Legion
Organized with a mixture of white and Cherokee companies at Knoxville, Tennessee, on September 27, 1862.
Indian companies detached in September 1863, reducing the regiment to eight companies.
Reoganized January 1863.
Surrendered by detachments in East Tennessee and western North Carolina in May 1865.
