Chapelry History

Liverpool St Paul, St Paul's Square,was created as a chapel of ease in 1769 from, and lying within the boundaries of Liverpool St Peter and St Nicholas, Lancashire  Ecclesiastical Parish.

In 1761 an Act was secured for the building of the church. In 1763 the first stone was laid. The church was consecrated in 1769. In 1818 some rebuilding of the cupola was undertaken to improve the acoustic and remove the need for a mobile pulpit since the congragation had been unable to hear the preacher.

The church closed in 1910 and was demolished in 1931.

Liverpool St Paul Chapelry (parish) registers are held at the Liverpool Record Office. These registers have also been microfilmed by FamilySearch and they are available through its 4600 FamilySearch Centers worldwide.
