Pre-1858
The large part of the county of Glamorgan was in the Diocese of Llandaff and probate of estates was handled by the Court of the Bishop of Llandaff. The west extreme of the county, west of the River Tawe and including the city of Swansea, was in the Diocese of St. David and probate of estates there was handled by the Court of the Bishop of St. David.
Beginning 1857
The Principal Probate Registry was established in 1858 and probate of all estates of deceased persons was then handled by a district court of that system.
