Genealogy of the Guillermo Family in GuatemalaEdit This Page

From FamilySearch Wiki

I am currently preparing a “Genealogy Tree of the Guillermo Family of Guatemala” that I hope to make available to all the family in the near future. My name is Elmer Guillermo, I was born in Salama, Baja Verapaz and reside in Guatemala City.
I have created a web site [www.famguillermoguate.com] with the purpose of getting to know the members of the Guillermo family and gathering information of all the people with their origins in Guatemala that have the Guillermo last name or are descendants of the Guillermo family. This information will be used for the preparation of the genealogy tree. We know that there is a huge number of persons with this last name in other countries; however, my project is intended only for those with the last name “Guillermo” with roots in Guatemala.
As far as it’s known, the Guillermo last name came to Guatemala from Spain but it’s not known when the first persons with this last name arrived in America. According to information found through Family Search there were families with the last name Guillermo in other countries of America in the middle of the XVII century. Said information reflects that the first “Guillermo’s” came to Guatemala from another country (Spain or other country in America), during the XVIII century and were established in Salama, B.V., Guatemala. From there, the family spread to other countries, especially to the United States of America.
I have been interviewing various families with the last name Guillermo in Salama, San Pedro Carcha, Coban, Tactic, Santa Cruz, Tucuru and City and have found that the ancestors of all the persons with the last name “Guillermo” who I have had the privilege of interviewing have their origins in Salama.
I hope to reach all the “Guillermo’s” that have their origin in Guatemala and also to be able to find the links between each family group. The draft of the family tree has already more than fourteen hundred family members but we know that there are many more. To be able to reach our objective, we need the help of each one by providing information of their respective family group. Those persons willing to participate in the construction of our genealogy tree are invited to visit our web site www.famguillermoguate.com .
