Adding a box

I am unclear about whether or not I need to disable the rich text editor before adding a box or just when  making other changes to a portal. The way the instructions are written it almost seems that I don't need to worry about disabling the text editor but I am afraid of messing something up.

The editor needs to be turned off for any editing of the code on a portal page. This includes adding a box to a portal page. The editor does not need to be turned off when editing the content within the boxes on portal pages. Molliewog 10:22, 29 February 2008 (MST)

Templates

You should move the State Portal code to a template.

I have copied the template used for Portal:New_York to Template:Portal/US/State. Feel free to use it :). This template is exactly the same as the code here, except it included a box for counties.

Why is this so incredibily complicated and confusing?

Why all this clicking here and clicking there and put you left foot in and hold your right foot out and turn you all about instructions? Why can't we have one-thing-and-one-thing-only to copy and paste to create a template portal page? When your instruction number 6 says "Now click on and of the links to "/box-footer". What does "on and of" mean?  Why do I even want a footer?--to tell the truth, I would much rather avoid footers if at all possible since I haven't got a clue what they are in a portal context. If this is a necessary piece of code, why not have it as part of the first thing we pasted? What do we gain by pasting it within the pasting? When instruction 6 continues, "In any of the "/box-footer" pages, paste the following code:" does that mean that we paste it in one-and-only one "/box-footer" page and it doesn't make any difference which one? Or does it really secretly mean we are supposed to paste this same thing in each and every one of the "/box-footer" places. By the way, why do I want a "1" in my portal page boxes?

Why couldn't we have a template where you type the name of the portal page you want to create in the correct spot on the template and click the save button and that creates the portal with all the empty boxes? Diltsgd 02:19, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Portal Creation Instructions

The disconnect I have with following the instructions starts at step 2.

2. In the editing box, type the following characters to import the portal template: subst:Portal Another method for importing the portal template is to copy and paste the code in the Portal Page Skeleton box below into the newly created portal page.

If there are actually two ways to accomplish this step they should be separated on different lines and bulleted to show the option.

The other problem is that in the past, once we added the code subst:Portal that was it. We could then start populating the boxes. It appears that this is no longer the case and from this point forward I am not sure if pasting the code example from step 4 is optional or required, especially after the discussion recently about changing portal page colors on Portal:Italy.
