In September 2011, FamilySearch invited a group of users to form a Governance Team to lead on reviewing, developing and putting in place the policies/governance process needed by the Research Wiki.

Scope
All policies are within scope for the team to review, with an emphasis to start with those relating to policy enforcement and the process by which contributors can look to resolve disagreements.

- Many of the articles were started taking Wikipedia's process as a basis.
