Parish History

Denton St Andrew is an Ancient Parish and part of the parish boundary forms part of the county boundary with neighbouring parishes of Harston, Leicestershire and Croxton Kerrial, Leicestershire

The village occupies the site of a Roman settlement and local archaeology suggests that it was a site of Beaker culture in the neolithic history of occupation in the county. The village name derives from the Old English dene+tun, meaning "village in a valley," but in Domesday it is written as "Dentune".

"DENTON (St. Andrew), a parish, in the union of Grantham, wapentake of Loveden, parts of Kesteven, county of Lincoln, 4 miles (S. W. by W.) from Grantham; containing 626 inhabitants."[1]
