Category:Vital recordsEdit This Page
From FamilySearch Wiki
This category is about birth, marriage, death, or divorce information as recorded by civil authorities (or by religious authorities if they were acting on behalf of the state as civil authorities).
The category "Vital records" usually applies to most places in the United States and Canada. In Quebec both "civil registration" and "vital records" can be used for the same records. Prefer the category "Civil registration" outside the United States and Canada. Early vital records in New England were often kept as part of the town records; if this is the case prefer the category "Town records" in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, or Vermont.
The Vital records category does not include cemetery records, church records, directories, funeral homes, parish registers, obituaries, probate records, or town records outside New England and New York.
