Historical Facts
Fomer town names: Beaverdam
Before 1750: Settled by the Palatine German refugees. They were squatters on the Rensselaerwyck estate.
1795: Town of Berne founded, from Town of Rensselaerville.
1822: North half of the Town set off to create Town of Knox.
4 July 1839: Due to the control by the patroons, the mass meeting of the tenant farmers met and it led to the Anti-Rent War.
