Parish History

AVETON-GIFFORD (St. Andrew), a parish, in the union of Kingsbridge, hundred of Ermington and Plympton, and S. divisions of Devon,3¼ miles (S. E.) from Modbury. It is situated on the river Avon, which is navigable to the English Channel. The lords of the manor had formerly the power of inflicting capital punishment. The church is an ancient structure, in the early style of English architecture, with later additions.[1]

Census records

  • The Genealogist.co.uk ($) has all available censuses and is free at Family History Centers and the Family History Library and various other libraries.
  • FreeCen is a UK census searches. It is not complete and individuals are always asked to consider helping out with transcriptions.
