Quick Facts
The town was named for the Algoma Lumber Company. The name is said to be an Indian word formed from Algonquin and goma, meaning Algonquin waters. Post Office was established in 1912 and closed in 1943. The town was a company townsite to support employees of Algoma Lumber Company.
